Moving to the MIT Server

Introduction

App Inventor is currently in transition. It was recently discontinued by Google, and is in the process of being picked up by MIT. There is now an experimental MIT App Inventor server up and running. We will switch to this server, and use it for the remainder of the semester. You will need to download all of your projects on the old server, and move it to the new one.

Downloading Your Projects

First, you need to download all of your projects. Go to http://appinventorusf.appspot.com/ and login to App Inventor. Click on the "My Projects" link near the top, and click on the "Download All Projects" button. You'll get a popup message:

Click "OK" and be patient. It may take a long time for the download to start. When it is complete, you should have a all-projects.zip file in your default download folder.

Next, you need to unzip/unarchive the zip file. On most computers, you can double-click the file to do this. You should see all of your projects as zip files:

Remember where these files are located—you'll need this location in the next step.

Uploading Your Projects

Now that you have all of your projects downloaded, you need to upload them to the new App Inventor server. Go to http://experimental.appinventor.mit.edu/ and login to App Inventor using the same email address as before.

Unfortunately, you need to upload each project one-by-one. Under the "More Actions" button, select "Upload Source" from the menu. Select one of the project zip files that you downloaded and extracted earlier:

Repeat this process for all of your project files.

We will be using MIT's server for the remainder of the course, so you won't need to go through this process again!
